The more the science has advanced, the further away have we moved from nature.

Thanks to our artificial existence, even to quench a natural urge like thirst, we imbibe synthetic substances such as colas and caffeine-loaded drinks.

Having starved our body of nature’s most precious liquid, water, we are beset
with multiple ailments like headaches, arthritis, asthma, urinary problems, general debility, blood pressure and the like.

Very often missing the root cause of the problem, we rush to doctors – only to have antibiotics pumped into us that offer short-term relief while turning into long-term nightmares.

This book shows how drinking just 12 to 14 glasses of water per day (for the average person) cures many ailments, including chronic ones.

Incredibly, by just carefully following the Water Protocol in the book, you may feel the difference within 48 hours!Just like a water-starved house plant that springs to attention within minutes of being watered!

Introduction

Man has always recognised the importance of water to lead a healthy life. Ancient Indians had considered water as one of the five important elements of nature that make up the human body.
Ayurveda, the Indian medicine system, considers water a very essential item in maintaining health and stipulates the quantity and manner in which water is to be consumed. Modern research has confirmed that what Ayurveda had stated thousands of years ago is very true.

Modern man unfortunately knows little about this important aspect and is under the impression that any fluid he consumes is a substitute for water. Consumption of aerated drinks has become the latest fashion of the day. Most people are under the impression that consuming aerated drinks is a good substitute for plain water.

While a majority of people are very conscious about the type of food they eat, the vitamins and minerals and the calorific value of the items they consume, they rarely consider water as an aid in maintaining good health. But believe it or not, proper consumption of water in the right quantity and quality is far more important than the quality of food one eats.

In the past 20 years, extensive research has been carried out in Japan and Germany on the role of water in maintaining good health. As the human body is made up of 70 percent water and the brain is almost 90 percent water, one can easily deduce why water plays a vital role in good health and well-being.
The book places before you details of the research carried out in this field by various scientists in different countries. I do hope the book will be successful in making you look at water as the best health drink one can consume.

I shall be very thankful for your feedback and experience after consuming revitalised water as explained in this book.
Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.  —Author

Excerpts

2.How Much Water Do You Need Every Day?

The quantity of water depends on one’s body weight. A rough calculation is given below.

For a person weighing 60 kilograms, the amount of water required per day is 3.5 litres. You can use this ratio and calculate how much water you need for your body weight.

To get maximum benefits, water has to be consumed in a specific manner. Water that is taken along with food or immediately after food harms your health as digestive juices are diluted, making digestion difficult. Most diseases have their origin in this wrong practice.

As digestion becomes slow, toxins are formed and the food putrefies resulting in gases. This also results in an uncomfortable feeling in the abdomen. At this stage, the cells are dehydrated and they will not be in a position to take part effectively in the digestive process.

Therefore, for best benefits, one should consume water in the following manner:

Water Protocol
300 ml of water (approximately one glass) should be taken immediately after one gets up from bed. This will help hydrate all the cells in the digestive tract. This also helps in proper elimination of waste material.

Another 300 ml should be taken half an hour before breakfast. This will ensure proper hydration of all the cells in the body and once breakfast is consumed, the cells will perform vigorously to absorb nutrients. Please note that no water should be taken along with breakfast or immediately after breakfast.

The next round of water intake should be one hour before lunch. Again 300 ml of water should be taken at this time.

Water should not be consumed during lunch or immediately after lunch. A minimum gap of two and a half hours is necessary after lunch to ensure that the food taken passes through the digestive tract and all the digestive juices are available in a concentrated form so that digestion takes place quickly and effortlessly. This will also eliminate the heavy feeling, discomfort and bloated abdomen after lunch.

Having kept a gap of two and a half hours after lunch, another 300 ml of water is to be consumed.

Between this time and the evening dinner, some more water can be taken as per one’s needs.

Again take 300 ml of water an hour before dinner.

However, during dinner or immediately after dinner, no water is to be consumed. Keeping a gap of two and a half hours after dinner, one can consume another 300 ml of water before retiring to bed.

The above protocol in drinking water is absolutely essential to procure the benefits of drinking water for health purposes. Persons who have kidney problems should increase their intake of water under medical supervision. Always note that when water is consumed, an equal amount should be eliminated through urine. If this is not the case, then it only means that water is getting logged in the body.

It is therefore always advisable to go for a medical check up before undertaking the water regimen and only begin drinking water after getting clearance from your doctor. Please note that the above information is given only for information purposes and is not intended to substitute a properly evaluated advice from your doctor. Always keep your doctor informed of what you are doing.

4. Ageing and Water

Ageing has always been the bane of humans. Man has helplessly watched the body grow old and lose its strength and stamina. No doubt he has tried to slow down this process by various means. Herbal medicines, exercise, diet, fasting etc., which are credited with reducing the pace, have all been tried without much success.

As the human body is nearly 70% water, scientists are now concentrating on the role of water in ageing. Water has remained the most mysterious fluid on earth and day after day new secrets about water are being revealed.

Most scientists feel that the process of ageing starts right from birth. Any functioning body produces waste products, which it should get rid of completely. When this does not happen, the waste products retained in the body change into poisonous waste and toxins are produced.

French physicist Alexia Carrel discovered that a cell is immortal and provided the cell fluid is replenished and waste products efficiently removed, cell life can go on forever.

To prove this, another scientist D.A. Camell kept a chicken heart alive for almost 28 years! He did so by placing the heart in an alkaline solution, which he changed every day. This enabled the extra cellular fluids to retain a constant level of concentration and as the solution was changed every day, waste products were completely removed.

In the case of a human being, as the body is 70% water, it is easy to see that water has an important role in eliminating waste products. Water is a strong solvent and can carry various items required by the body like minerals, oxygen, nutrients, water products etc.

It therefore appears that the secret of maintaining a youthful body lies in the consumption of an adequate quantity of water of the right quality. In his bestseller, Reverse Ageing, Sang Whang states that ageing is unnatural and can be completely halted by switching over to the right quality water.

Acidity and Alkalinity

Blood has almost 90% water and it is blood which carries out the body’s functions properly. Water is made from two parts of hydrogen and one part of oxygen by volume. In other words, two hydrogen atoms combine with one oxygen atom to form one molecule of water. A water molecule is also electrically polarised. The side with hydrogen is more positive and the other side with oxygen is more negative. Similarly, in water molecules the two hydrogen atoms are not attached to the oxygen atom at 180o angle, but at 104.5o angle.

Another characteristic of water is its ability to ionise. Ionisation is a process when an atom or molecule loses an electron to another atom or gains an electron from another atom. When a water molecule ionises, the molecule splits into two parts namely hydrogen ion, which is referred to as H+ and hydroxyl ion referred to as OH-.

Ionised water molecules can react with a host of chemicals present in the body to create varieties of products. If there are more H+ ions in water than OH- ions, it is called acidic-water. On the other hand, if OH- ions are more than H+ ions, it is called alkaline water. If water is to be neutral, the concentration of OH- ions and H+ ions should be equal.

In any water, some ionisation would have taken place due to various reasons. The ratio of H+ ions to the total water molecule is called pH. This is a very important indicator and the quality of water consumed is determined by the pH value. If the number of H+ ions is the same as OH- ions, the water is said to have a pH value of 7. If the pH value increases, it means the OH- ions are more.

Normally human blood has a pH value of 7.3. A small difference in pH value can mean a large difference in the capacity of blood to carry oxygen.

For example, if the pH value of the blood is 7.5 instead of 7.3, the blood can then carry 75% more oxygen. Peak health therefore means keeping the pH value of blood at 7.5 instead of 7.3.

However, consumption of wrong kinds of beverages drastically reduces the pH value. Aerated soft drinks have a pH value ranging from 2.5 to 3.2 and just to neutralise the effect of one glass of soft drink, a person has to consume 30 times the volume of proper water. Beer has a pH value of 4.7, which actually dehydrates the body leading to a dry mouth the following morning.

You can now understand why doctors recommend alkaline foods so that the pH of the blood remains high, which in turn means that the blood is capable of carrying more oxygen. This in turn keeps every cell in the body at peak efficiency and helps the cell eliminate waste products.

The importance of proper oxygenation and therefore maintaining a higher pH cannot be overstated. Dr Otto Warborg, who won the Nobel Prize in 1931 and was the author of the book Metabolism of Tumour, demonstrated that the primary cause of cancer was the replacement of oxygen in the cell by the fermentation of sugar.

Although a healthy cell cannot survive or grow in the absence of oxygen, a cancer cell thrives and needs no oxygen to multiply. He called the cancer cell a plant cell in the human body, as plants survive on carbon dioxide and discard oxygen as a waste product.

Oxygen therapy has become popular in Europe and reportedly several cases of cancer have responded favourably to this mode of therapy. For more details, visit the site
www.oxytherapy.com.

Some scientists such as Dr Herman Aihara are of the opinion that cancer originates because of lack of oxygen in a cell. Lack of oxygen in a cell results in death of the cell. However, some cells desperate to survive learn the trick of survival without oxygen and turn abnormal. This abnormal cell multiplication is called cancer.

Alkaline Water

Drinking of alkaline water was at one time believed to be a sure way of preventing cancer. The Japanese Health Ministry once highly recommended this water. Alkaline ionised water was considered a cure all. Recently, however, the medical community in Japan is looking at ionised water with disapproval. There are some who believe that alkaline ionised water adversely affects health.

The Director of the Japan Water Hygiene Research Institute states: “This water was originally developed for therapeutic purposes for patients suffering from extra hyper-acidity. To be honest, if a healthy person drinks this water, it is nothing but harmful, because it weakens the functions of your stomach and weakens the activity of pepsin, a justified enzyme.”

In the stomach, pepsin plays an important role because it kills bacteria that invade from outside. Obviously, ionised water interferes with the function of the stomach acid and may be promoting illness.

Alkaline ioniser is a medical device and was approved as such by the Ministry of Health in Japan. The Ministry is now re-examining the approval given to this device. Thus ionised water is not the answer to get the best out of water. All the same, it is necessary to improve the pH value of blood. Again, we have to achieve this by drinking the right quality of water and not through chemical means.

In the following chapters, we shall consider the alternatives.
